Life is a journey through many a terrain

From gardens of pleasure to deserts of pain

From oceans of love to jungles of hate

From mountains of glory to canyons of fate

There’s a highway for joy and a highway for sorrow

A Road for today and a road for tomorrow

So choose your path wisely and please walk it with care

If you follow your heart, you’ll find your way there

You see…

I’ve been to the gardens and planted seeds there

I’ve been to the desert and felt the despair

I’ve swam in the ocean of love and drank of its wine

And of most of life’s pleasures I truly did dine

I’ve climbed life’s mountains to touch the sky

And I’ve been in the canyons where I started to cry

I’ve been in life’s jungles and felt the worlds hate

But I’ve never been one to believe in fate

My Path has been twisted, wide spread and long

But to me it’s been a truly beautiful, sweet song

I’ve followed my heart and there’s not much time to spare

Tell them in heaven Lord, that soon I’ll be there!

The Old Blue Bus

She traveled the roads in style
That old blue bus of mine
Over hills and dales she puttered
Yes, she traveled those roads in style
Alas, old age and the many miles traveled eventually took their toll
To the pasture she was retired, but still in my memories…
She traveled the roads in style

This is a triolet poem I wrote for a writing challenge over at Multiply.com. A triolet is a poem form that is eight lines long and where the first, fourth and seventh lines are the same (or close to the same) and the second and last lines are the same.

No More Happy Endings

Her life had become full of
Cold lonely nights and cloudy mornings
Her hazy brain screaming at her,
Her whole body craving,
One of Satan’s favorite tools…crack cocaine
Upside down, sideways but never right side up
That is what her life had become
The dark Lord Satan,
Disguised as a Twenty Dollar rock of cocaine
Was her lover
And her life…was nothing but misery and pain

Paranoid delusions raced through her head
Fractured memories of a life as Daddy’s little girl
Battled with the thoughts of the hunger
That only one thing could ever feed
Money, more money, she needed another hit
The Devil whispers “sell your body, that should do the trick”
Another piece of her…dissolves away
As Satan slowly leeches away the last of her soul
Soon she’ll be nothing…
Nothing at all

A happy ending…no…
I don’t think you’ll ever find one here
Fairy tale endings are few and far between
This little girl has lost all control
And the Devil laughs his wicked laugh
As crack claims him another soul
And souls once claimed by Satan
Are very rarely…ever given back

Rock bottom…
Nothing left to lose
The Devils little plaything
Lays discarded like a cockroach crawling on a filthy floor
She has nothing left to live for and nothing more to give
A once promising life lays dying…wasting away to no more
Playing with the Devil, you should expect the same thing
No more happy endings because…Satan will never let you get away
To see a better day

As day slips away into night
The trials and tribulations of life…
Fade away
Behind the curtains of sleep and dreams

In my mind
Warm tropical breezes caress your skin
The playful splash of you
Flits around the edges of my mind
No matter where my dreams take me…
You’re there

As the sun rises, it brightens the new day
and it reminds me of your beautiful smile
You’re the prize that awaits me
As the voyage of dreams nears its end

The warmth of your lips linger…
As nights twilight merges into dawns early light
In my mind…You live on
I hang on to,
Every…last…second…of sleep
But time, precious and dear
Moves at its own pace
Soon, inevitably, I must awake
To a world where you are…no more
Disappointed,
I arise to greet a new day

A vision you were in blue.

All I remember…is you!

The starshine of your eyes,
Those soft, supple lips,
Oh I remember that kiss!

The moon was just a sliver,
As it slowly wandered by.
Our hearts were just a quiver,
As we danced under the night sky.

Quiet, sweet nothings were whispered
As the outside world faded away
Love and lust grew and prospered
As night gradually turned to day

I saw the sunrise
And its beauty touched my soul

Girl…you messed with head

Awwww babe, I should throw you out that freakin’ door

You’ve been a self-absorbed beauty with a proud heart
Believing in your own hype
You became blinded by the luster of all that is you
Puffed up with conceit
You slept with the Devil girl, and for that you’ve paid the price
Now isn’t that nice

So here you are…looking for redemption
abandoned by all who loved you…laughed at by those who didn’t
The black tracks of your tears…running down your face
Broken and bedraggled…it’s to me you return
The one you hurt the most…now what am I to do?
Oh what am I to do?

Do know what it’s like to stare into a lovers eyes
And see a stranger staring back at you?
Can I replace the knife in my back with the love I used to have with you
Can I forgive you?
Can I believe in you?
Well…dry your eyes girl
You won’t get any more grief for me
Actually the humble you is quite appealing…
Yes we can still be friends
But winning me back may the easiest part of your journey
Mending fences and building new bridges can be hard baby
And not everyone will be as easy as me to convince
But… you’re back to the you that I knew before babe…so how can they resist?

Queeny

She stalks regally down the hall
Moving smoothly and lithely
Her puffed up tail swishing back and forth
Her aristocratic gaze, surveying her domain
Making sure that everything is as she left it
Her eyes light up
As she espies her newly filled food dish
“I have my humans trained well” she thinks
As she very primly starts to eat

Suddenly a intruder slides wildly through the door
It’s that pesky, brown, clumsy, fur ball of a dog
“Maybe her humans aren’t trained well enough”
She thinks, “Because that pest is still around”
A menacing, ferocious, growl erupts from her lips
Letting the intruder know that he is not welcomed
In the Queens presence as she dines
So he had better get lost if he knew what is best for him
She smiles an evil little smile
As he high-tails it out the door
“Fierce is my middle name” she thinks
As she struts her regal stuff back down the hallway
“Life is good” her contented purr seems to convey
As she resumes her royal tour of her domain
All hail the Queen!
